TECHNOPHOBIA:fear or dislike of advanced technology or complex devices and especially computers(http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/technophobia, downloaded 20/07/2010)
Part (98%)of me if petrified, yet there is this one little streak of determination that will not see me quit. The excitement of being able to access the 21st century and assist others in their endeavours to move up and beyond is what is keeping me sane.
In just two short weeks, I have managed to start up a delicious.com account whereby I am able to bookmark favourite web pages onto a website and access numerous other users' bookmarks. This website is like a bank that tallies the number of times each bookmark has been accessed. The higher the number, the more useful it is likely to be. I have also created a google account, a skype account, a yahoo account, a webpage, a wiki page and a page for blogging my continuing journey (this is the one you are reading right now).
Now let me try to put this in perspective....
Blogs are online diaries that publish thoughts (posts) in chronological order. Blogging is 'user friendly' in the way that it enables the "blogger" to engage in critical reflection on pedagogical practices and educational issues. This is indeed, as Duffy and Bruns (2006) suggests "......a socially mobile learning environment". Through the use of Blogs, teachers are able to facilitate highly effective pedagogical practices within the classroom. Formative assessment, individual and group reflections, peer assessment, and collaborative learning experiences are just a diminutive of the way in which blogs can be utilised.
Collaborative learning with other teachers and educators is also made seemingly effortless with blogs as educators are able to access the internet without having to find a location and time suitable for all thus enabling users globally to partake in the learning . This is acquiesced with Williams and Jacobs 2004 credence in regard to blogging whereby they state the potential to be a transformational technology for teaching and learning.
